yup. i can sing. various styles too. punk rock, garage band alternative, irish rock, acapella soprano, and experimental. i have been vocalist in bands that you have probably never heard of, but hear you go... twat, theodore, the drovers, slowburn, esch marie, s:cage, impending behaviour orchestra, and currently, mouth.
i took opera lessons for 8 months with a lyric opera vocal coach, can't remember his name for the life of me though (charles doyle maybe?), he had bright red hair and was a featured singer with the lyric opera chicago. he said i sang better than some of the music majors at northwestern university. i remember that making my day.
i have vocalized in some shape or fashion, either live or pre-recorded, for all of my performances that i have done with my dance company. recently, i got to really delve into both my dancing and singing with composer barry bennett's group called the impending behaviour orchestra, in an improvisational performance entitled "ghosts". the evening length event also featured the talents of dancers, tracee westmoreland, kristin fluty, and mindy meyers. in theses performances, none of the music or dancing are rehearsed - so we never know what we're going to do or what the music will sound like. it's terrifying and completely brilliant. i am in love with it!
